In this video, we’ll explore four drills to enhance your posture and improve your ground contact, ultimately leading to better acceleration. These drills focus on creating a triple extension through the body, ensuring your chin and head don’t alter your center of mass.
First, have your athlete stand with their weight on the ball of their foot and then guide them to drop their chin to their chest. Observe the shift in pressure to their toes. Next, ask them to perform a “U” drill, maintaining an upright head and lifting their chest. This drill reinforces proper chin and chest positioning while promoting a frontside position.
Finally, introduce the “skip into a run” drill to allow your athlete to establish a stable position before accelerating. For a more challenging variation, have them execute a “falling two-point start,” where they drop one knee and initiate their movement. These drills effectively condition athletes to initiate acceleration from optimal postures, maximizing their speed and efficiency.
